set of ads coming out. and they are already sparking some new outrage. "today in the bay's" monte francis is live in san francisco with all the details. monte, good morning. >> reporter: jon, good morning. you won't see these new ads on muni buses until next month. they're already posted online and are sparking some controversy. take a look. new ads from the freedom defense initiative run by commentator and blogger pamela gellor quote anti-gay messages from islamic leaders. one quotes iran's president saying, "homosexuality is ugly. and in iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country." gellor, who lives in new york means this as a response to harsh criticism from city leaders about her first set of bus ads, anti-islamic in nature. last week, city and local religious leaders gathered to condemn the ads. as a publication, legal experts say muni is unable to refuse the

ads because of conflicts with the first amendment. legal challenges to remove similar ads from city buses in new york and chicago have been unsuccessful. muni dedicated revenue from the first set of ads to the human rights commission and will likely also donate the money from these six ads as well. we reached out to pamela gellor but have not heard back. monte francis, "today in the bay." new this morning, we just heard from a christian preschool in the east bay about changes in store for students when they return to school today. you'll recall centerpoint christn preschool was closed for a few days after allegations a teacher used tape to restrain a child after she wouldn't go down for a nap. christie smith is live and has details for us. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning, laura. allegations have rocked this small preschool and church, former teacher accused of taping up a little girl's hands and

feet because she refused to take a nap. the staff have met with family. they did that last week. then they closed their doors to regroup, retrain. a spokesperson for centerpointe preschool gave us a statement. "the centerpointe staff team has had 3 1/2 days of quality training including attendance at the statewide early childhood education conference. the staff has made some adjustments to the program to better serve the children and their families. we look forward to welcoming them wednesday." the staff of the school said they only learned of the incident earlier this month. they said a former teacher had taken a photo of the 2-year-old girl with masking tape on her hands and feet, sitting on a cot. and then that teacher apparently showed it to other teachers, including the girl's mom, who then went to police. >> the potential crime could be a form of child abuse. >> it's scary. i almost want to cry. i imagine my daughter, she's only a few months younger. and if someone ever did that to

her, i don't -- i would be livid. >> the school says it's fully cooperating with the investigation and pleasanton police have wrapped up their end of t it's now up to the al media county district attorney to decide whether the teacher will face charges or not. she has been advised to stay away from all child care facilities pending the outcome of what really happened here. christie smith, "today in the bay." chp issuing a silver alert for an 83-year-old man from danville. nicholas totino who goes by the nickname paul was last seen yesterday afternoon at 12:30. he does have heart issues and early signs of dementia. he is said to drive a 2006 gray-colored toyota camry with the license plate you see on your screen, 5thh081. if you happen to have any

wet roadway conditions because of earlier rains. if it's not currently raining where you are, you have the slick off-ramps still. north broadway, downtown oakland, stalled vehicle blocking the slow lane. we see the backup already as you're heading into downtown oakland. we'll continue to track that. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza shows you the backup in the cash lanes. still showing an advantage. metering lights likely turn on in the next few minutes. we'll see all these lanes filling in the next few. right now pretty easy drive at the toll plaza itself. east shore freeway west 80 through sunol and san pablo. blue means standing water, puddling and ponding likely just off interstate 80. smooth ride out of carcinas and sunol. pleasant hill likely to see more standing water. no problems across that venetia bridge. south 680 at highway 24.

welcome back, everyone. several supermarket chains, including whole foods and trader joe's say they will not sell jeannetgenetically engineered s. it is engineered to grow twice as fast as normal and would become the first genetically modified animal to reach dinner tables. a new study is shedding new light on the prevalence of autism here in the united states. the new report shows one in every 50 school-age child has some form of autism. let me say that again. one in every 50. that is much higher than the one in 88 announced by a different government agency just last year. experts say the higher number is likely due to increased awareness and better counting methods for children with

autism, not necessarily that more kids have the condition. if passed, it would be the strictest legislation against transgender people in the nation. john carve gnaw wants to make it a misdemeanor for someone to use a public restroom or shower that has a gender different than what is on his or her birth certificate. 6:14 right now. time for a quick check of the day's top stories. president obama currently in israel this morning for the first time as commander in chief. he is expected to meet with israeli president shimon perez and prime minister benjamin netanyahu, also meeting with palestinian leader mahmoud abbas. south korea internet comes

see, one with a heart that says "i love you" written in german. the other, some people think it's a caricature of elvis presley. these pieces were purchased by a german man who immigrated to the bay area in 1931 when the berlin wall fell in '89, frank golden bought these and had them shipped out here. he has since passed away and the slabs were donated to the city just last year. just last night, mountain view city council voted 6-1 to have them moved to the public library on franklin street in downtown mountain view a block way from the popular castro street. they will stand outside the libra library entrance where more people will see them. no word yet on when exactly this move will take place. i can tell you that the mountain view city council allocated about $50,000 to pay for the

brian hager talking about great skiing. interstate 80 have those chain advisories. cro closer to home, interstate 80. pretty typical for the morning commute. watch for those slick on and off ramps. we have your slowing off the richmond area through berkeley. slow up the incline, which is why they turned the metering lights on. green over the maps shows you wet roadways. we're tied in the weather system over here. north 880, that stall still at broadway. things have sorted themselves out but we still have the slowing. it sounds like it's still blocked by that vehicle and we'll follow that with chp as they give us the updates. they are heading out to the scene. slowing south 880 san mateo bridge, slowing at the castro valley y as well. wet conditions coming across the bridge itself. no problems for highway 92. peninsula 101, it looks like a

live look at the new york stock exchange. ceo of the model n had the honor of ringing that bell. i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. model n is pricing its initial public offering higher than expected to raise more than $100 million. it will trade upped the symbol modn. the company ended up getting $15.50 per share. it is expected to sell 6.5 million. model n has 600 employees, a third of them at its redwood shore headquarters. founded in 1989, they make management software for life sciences and technology sectors. scott budman will speak to the ceo later today and have a live

report tonight. president obama touching down in tele tel aviv this mor. set to tackle several controversial issues. tracie potts joins us now from live from washington, d.c. with a look at president obama's landmark visit. >> tess a visit, jon, that startd with that touchdown in tel aviv. he was met by a small group of officials, including israeli president, shimon perez and prime minister benjamin netanyahu, meeting with both of them later today. in tel aviv, he made comments before those meetings, saying the winds of change bring both promise and peril, referring to some of the issues he will be discussing later today with the leaders. the president flew to jerusalem before meeting with perez and netanyahu to talk about how to

freeway, westbound 80 is your commute with all these lights, shoulder to shoulder here. we see slowing through sunol, richmond and university. despite the wet weather, no surprises. back to you. overnight apartment fire lands a teenage boy in the hospital this morning. soon it will land him in court. petalum apolice say the downtown apartment building on east washington street caught fire overnight because that 15-year-old boy was making hash. the fire apparently sparked when the boy tried to heat dried marijuana to extract the oil. that boy is now being treated for burns at a nearby hospital. the apartment does have some minor fire damage and water, major water damage as well. 6:35. new crew could catch a copper thief in fremont. investigators believe the truck shown here may have been stolen and then used in a break-in at a pg & e storage yard sunday

a worker in new york city recovering after being trapped in mud at a subway construction site. in this individuvideo provided new york city fire department, you can see that man being lifted finally from safety after being pinned from the waist down. total of three firefighters did suffer nonlife threatening injuries during this rescue. 6 cl:39. record breaking drug bust. this video just into our newsroom. police have seized 47 pounds of heroin and 169 pounds of

cocaine, marked with codes that could indicate it was about to be shipped throughout the country. investigators have arrested one person and are looking for others. animal abuse caught on camera. the mayor of san diego has ordered a two-month nighttime shut down of a beach after people there were caught abusing seals. the camera, a 24-hour seal cam was installed at a beach near la jolla cove in january. it was originally intended to give researchers and the public a chance to watch seals giving birth. the camera also captured people kicking and punching and sitting on top of mother seals and their pups. that's just crazy. the boech has been at the center of the city's long legal fight over human access versus seal protection. >> hope they catch them. 6:40 right now. coming up, fast-moving flames burning through two homes overnight. why it took firefighters such a tough fight against this one. a hard time. bustle sunrise over san jose

an update right now to breaking news going on in the east bay. two homes are now burning on taylor road and bethel island. one person was injured and treated right on that scene.

by 9:00 am, widespread showers south to san jose. stop that clock for you again. as we head through about noon, showers start to lighten up a little bit. still steady over most of the bay area between noon and 6:00, they really start to let up. isolated activity at that point over the south bay. by 10:00 tonight, almost nothing left. few residual showers tomorrow morning to be followed by good air quality, lower pollen levels. low 60s, upper 50s. 61 for livermore. 61 in redwood city. holding on to the upper 50s meanwhile in oakland. and beautiful san francisco. friday into saturday, and that beautiful all-important weekend. we'll warm you up. make those outdoor plans. really comfortable conditions across the bay area. in fact, santa cruz sunday, 65 degrees. you can get out there. 6:47. let's check your drive. good morning, mike. >> good morning. you have to get out there. for the folks on the morning commute, dealing with slicker

killed the suspect monday was also involved in a shootout last november. the officer is a five-year veteran of the force. investigators say he shot and killed the driver of a stolen car in east san jose after that car slam med right into two police cars and then accelerated straight at him. back in november, the very same officer shot and injured a crime spree suspect who reportedly had an officer pinned down by gunfire. the case against a man accused of stealing an $800,000 item from the oakland museum could soon be dropped to clear the way for federal charges. a federal complaint was filed against andre terey franklin friday, who stole a gold rush era jewelry box from the museum january 9th. he is also suspected of stealing gold nuggets and gold rush pistol from the museum but has yet to be charged. a follow-up on issues being tackled by bay area city.

santa clara city council approving a way to waive charges if the city wins a bid for the super bowl. santa clara will find out in may if it will win super bowl 2016. stores will be required to have a tobacco license to sell e-cigarettes. final vote on that issue will take place april 9th. san francisco's muni approving a plan to build a mobile app that would connect passengers to all taxis around the city. the app would create a centralized dispatch service for the cabs. piece of history has a permanent home in mountain view. after a year of debate, the city has finally decide what to do with two massive pieces of the berlin wall. marla tellez is live in moup ntn

privatize public education. new this morning, north korean hackers may have attacked several major broadcasters and banks in south korea, being hit with internet outages this morning. servers for at least three major television networks and banks are affected. spokeswoman for one of the networks says it's believed to be the work of hackers. many are speculating the attack came from north korea, but south korea's internet security agency says it has not found any evidence of an external attack. american airlines is defending its plan to give its outgoing ceo nearly $20 million in severance pay. american airlines ceo is being replaced by the chief executive of us airways as soon as the two companies complete that merger. trustee overseeing american airlines bankruptcy objected to this monster payout. american says bankruptcy code does not apply because the payout would be made by the new airline after the merger pulls
